, a consolidated building maintenance services company, is seeking a Bridge Operator at the James River Bridge who is responsible for and operates one or more drawbridges; does other related duties.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
ResponsibilitiesTypical tasks carried out by bridge operators include controlling road traffic warning signals, raising and lowering bridges to allow waterway passage, and communicating with ship traffic.
In order to operate the machinery and coordinate safe passage, a bridge operator must also maintain and inspect the equipment to ensure it's in safe, working condition.
If an accident occurs, the bridge operator will be expected to prepare a report.
A bridge operator position usually only requires a high school diploma or GED.
Receives on-the-job training in the operation of power-driven drawbridges.
Become familiar with Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies on bridge operations.
Conducts visual inspection of the bridge to ensure safe operation.
Prepares bridge logs, documenting bridge openings and closings in response to marine vessel signals.
Uses the marine radio to communicate with vessel pilots.
Reports mechanical or electrical problems to bridge lead worker or other appropriate personnel so that corrective action can be taken.
Assists in the collection of information to report marine and vehicular collisions and damages Job Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
Education/TrainingHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent, computer training with Microsoft office backgroundLicenses, Certifications, RequirementsCPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
The successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination, and medical history check.
Possession of a valid driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Working ConditionsRequires light physical work; light lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 25 pounds.
Prolonged sitting.
