Newport News, VA Newport News, VA Full-time Full-time $17 an hour $17 an hour Description/Job Summary Position Summary The Materiel Handling Laborer is responsible for receiving and storage of subsistence following Army Regulations (AR 30-1) and Field manual (FM 10-23-2).
Assists in monthly inventories and keeps daily accountability of high dollar subsistence.
Coordinates the need for cleaning supplies and delivers to the dining facilities.
Responsible for keeping storage rooms, freezers, walk-in and reach-in refrigerators, clean and rotates subsistence on the first-in, first-out principle.
Position Accountabilities The following are essential job accountabilities:
Receives, inspects and stores subsistence and assists in monthly inventory of subsistence.
Issues high dollar subsistence to kitchen for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Keeps storage rooms, freezers, walk-in and reach-in refrigerators clean and rotates subsistence on the first in first out principle.
Receives and stores cleaning supplies, ensuring that the storage areas are clean and neat in appearance.
Maintain supplies in storage cabinets for daily usage.
Coordinates with Stock Clerk for cleaning supplies.
Maintains absolute confidentiality on all proprietary information and information related to Food Service matters, except as specifically directed.
The Materiel Handling laborer is delegated the authority for appropriate actions within the limits of approved policies, regulations and procedures to accomplish his/her assigned duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Perform daily inventory checks to assist Stock Clerk with ordering of subsistance.
Maintain accountability book daily.
Post kitchen requisitions into AFMIS-DFO subsystem meal production after meals.
Participate in cross-training programs to increase proficiency in assigned duties ; developes required skills to qualify for advancement.
Position Qualifications Typical Education and
Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent.
One year (1) work experience in a military dining facility or in an industry of similar operational complexity as a cook or store room clerk is desired.
Field of Expertise:
Food service operations, inventory systems and receiving and stocking.
Skills:
Administrative:
Must be able to speak, read and write English.
Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals.
Must demonstrate progressive and continuing professional competency growth.
Must have the ability to follow instructions and adjust to rapidly changing requirements.
Must be able to read and write English and apply general math functions.
Communicate effectively and work well with others.
Mental Requisites:
Required to work under stressful circumstances and meet short suspense dates.
May be required, on an as-needed basis, to assist or perform in other special assignments.

Supervisory
Experience:
None required.
Physical Demands:
Must be free of medical restrictions/limitations that prevent the performance of the required duties.
Must be physically capable of performing work in conditions of extreme weather.
Must utilize proper lifting procedures and practices, and heavy lifting is required.
Must be able to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs is required.
May be required to work uncommon hours, extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:
Must be a United States citizen or be authorized to work in the United States.
Must be eighteen year of age.
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
