Engineer - Structural 4 (API 510)


Responsibilities:
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.
--Execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques and technologies to support the development of new or improved tank designs, inspection methods, processes, equipment and/or manufacturing methods.
--Routine use of advanced software modeling to perform tank design and structural engineering assessments for dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis to assure safety and reliability of product designs.
--Interface with facility owners, operators, safety & environmental groups to develop work scope packages and estimates for new construction, modification, repair and reconstruction of atmospheric storage tank systems
--Directs activities to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements
--Providing leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced team members and regularly meeting with external collaborators.
--Adapting and responding to unforeseen changes in work plans and applying diversified knowledge of principles and practices to the initiation of new plans as needed
--Participation in team meetings and providing focus on progressing the development of business and assigned projects
--Work performed with minimal supervision; has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.
--Identifying circumstances that necessitate the use of proper safety procedures and equipment.
Hours given as: 8:00am to 5:00pm Location: 1 Newport News VA 23607.
REQUIRED
Experience:
Must be an active Registered Professional Engineers. The Manager has stated they will accept registrations from U.S. states other than Virginia.
9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
Preferred Qualifications :
--Minimum 5 years work experience with an operating company, consulting firm and/or construction firm related to upstream, midstream and/or downstream oil and gas industry.
--Familiarity with relevant industry standards including API 510, 620, 650, 653, NFPA 30, AWWA, UL 142, OSHA and EPA requirements
--Experience in design, fabrication and/or construction of Aboveground Storage Tanks and related components with an ability to apply relevant standards, materials and forms to create functional and aesthetic design results.
--Ability to plan and schedule project activities; provide engineering support, and coordinate engineering drawings.
--Possess a strong understanding of codes related to tanks and equipment (new construction, repair, alteration)
--Customer Focused: dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
--Excellent written & verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
--Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and estimate.
--Demonstrated ability to lead and to work with others with good oral and written communication skills.
--Must have strong computer skills, especially with 3D modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools
--Maintain a valid TWIC card (a plus)
While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:
--Work in confined spaces, including entry through small man ways (18)
--Wear and work in applicable PPE which may include a respirator
--Lift and/or move greater than 50 pounds
--Must be able to work in environment with extreme heat or cold temperatures and limited lighting
--Potential to work at elevated heights
EDUCATION:
Must have at least a bachelors degree from an accredited institution.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
