Job Description

EB on-site Material support to HII-Newport News Shipyard in Virginia for the Columbia Class and Virginia Class Programs.

This position requires the Material Technical Aide to provide support to EB-on site Design and Engineering personnel with the development and consumption of the Bill of Materials (EPL) and Common Parts Catalog during the design and constuction of the Columbia and Virginia Classes.

Support the resolution of problems associated with the BOM, Military and commercial specifications, vendor drawings, shipbuilder drawings/disclosures and liability documents. This requires the ability to read and understand detail constuction drawings/disclosures and their related documents.

Also, the Material Technical Aide should be familiar with material identification/selection and application processes, have good organizational, writing and computer skills and have a working knowledge of the tools required to produce products from CATIA/CDM, Teamcenter/NX and the Commo Parts Catalog (CPC).

This position requires the ability to interpret and respond to Vendor Information Requests (VIR), initiate technical supplements with the approval of EB Material Services Management.

Education/ Experience


High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Ability to read and understand detailed drawings/disclosures, specifications and reference documents a must.


Understanding of design and construction principles is considered a plus.


Experience using CATIA/CDM, Teamcenter/NX, Common Parts Catalog (CPC), ELCADD, SPARS, MRPII and understand the translation of data being sent from EB Groton to Newport News on a regular basis.

Understand the Government system for National Stock Number procurements, use of Haystack

Interfacing with Newport News Design and Engineering departments in support of material related issues and problems.

Posses strong communication skills and the ability to express clearly both oral and written.

Be able to work in an off-site position independently.

This position will report to the EB on site Management for administrative purposes and to the Manager of Material Services, D447 in Groton for all technical process and procedures.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
